Afua is a nationally-known expert in growth strategies for hospitals and health systems amid rapidly changing forces such as healthcare consumerism and value-based care. She founded Sound Health Advisory LLC, to bring subject matter expertise, insight driven problem solving and pragmatic counsel to healthcare strategy and operational leaders innovating with transformational Health IT.

Afua has more than a decade of providing strategic counsel on complex people, technology and process problems. She is known for her analytical rigor, creativity and dogged determination to translate insights into actionable, relevant guidance and collaborates deeply with her clients to leverage their own capabilities and resources to get to right answer for their context.

Prior to founding Sound health Advisory LLC, she was a Managing Director in Corporate Strategy at the Advisory Board Company , in Washington DC. In that role, she led the product development and launch of solutions focused on solving some of the most onerous delivery transformation challenges of health care provider organizations. Her research and product development work focused on addressing practical aspects of integrating telehealth into service delivery .

Another area of her expertise is in technology enablement of care pathways utilizing clinical decision support and addressing the practical informatics, and change management challenges of clinical standardization efforts in provider work flows.

Before joining the Advisory Board Company, Afua was a management consultant with McKinsey and Company where she served hospital clients on optimizing front line operations and US government clients on large scale performance transformation. She was also a postdoctoral research fellow in the Development Strategy and Governance group at the International Food Policy Research Institute, a research and policy institution providing policy guidance, program analysis and evaluations for the world’s leading multilateral and non governmental organizations.

Afua is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she double-majored in Materials Science and Engineering and Economics and held several records on the Women’s Indoor and Outdoor track and field teams. She holds a doctorate in Economics from The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University.
